Just a quick little post, as I've been working on stuff but have a bunch of un-photographable stuff.<br />
However, I did finish a sampler of stitching, knotting and tying techniques from the book, Utility Quilts<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHFpgyGxQGkQ75oB-hhXhMwA0twG-a2HeTj0drkD4s28jpKKqvCpaNB6EBPbkpGO2aFXbyAJ4deIa_XL40jIsFpciVCAvdLAps09AAhh7eRqJ_UoUgIc7Awpnym3emEBxoVJfKHQhhoSfZ/s1600/IMG_0240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHFpgyGxQGkQ75oB-hhXhMwA0twG-a2HeTj0drkD4s28jpKKqvCpaNB6EBPbkpGO2aFXbyAJ4deIa_XL40jIsFpciVCAvdLAps09AAhh7eRqJ_UoUgIc7Awpnym3emEBxoVJfKHQhhoSfZ/s320/IMG_0240.jpg" width="240" /></a> and even though I've tied several quilts before, it was</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
a)fun to try different things,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
b)great trying all these things at once, so the comparison is immediate and lasting</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
c)great to try a bunch and not be committed to one you don't care for on a whole quilt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, all in all, a good idea--for me, anyway. Aaaaaaaaand, here it is:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2OYTrveXBDknB4JnAoedSsTuDBe_XS3KRTvH7TqCeSwIwgb72l16KI2oQQX4fQR5ZI53K20sUBJyOfYiyR6-88cV8xEZ7gKC3s5_H4SD6G_QlPK5iPIiUgKL7d0uPZF_vhFTPpK9147Nk/s1600/IMG_0249.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2OYTrveXBDknB4JnAoedSsTuDBe_XS3KRTvH7TqCeSwIwgb72l16KI2oQQX4fQR5ZI53K20sUBJyOfYiyR6-88cV8xEZ7gKC3s5_H4SD6G_QlPK5iPIiUgKL7d0uPZF_vhFTPpK9147Nk/s320/IMG_0249.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I left the markings in, so I can use them for a class sample of more than just the finishing techniques. If you click on the pic, you'll get a close up of all the different ones:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
there's big stitch with tiger tape with the top stitch bigger than the bottom one, big stitch quilting where the stitches are the same top and bottom, running cross stitch, surgeons knot, square knot, methodist knot, modified backstitch, crows footing, buttonhole stitch.........whew.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not gonna tell you which ones I prefer so as not to bias anyone. To each their own, right? Plus, different batts and patchwork patterns might require a rethink. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I saw a post on <a href="http://luannsloosethreads.blogspot.com/">LuAnn's blog</a> the other day that she had gotten the book <i>Feathering the Nest </i>published by Quiltmania and was really pleased with it, so of course, as I'd been drooling for it for a while, I went ahead and ordered it today. Can't wait for it to come. I sure hope <i>somebody</i> appreciates my library when I'm gone!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kitchen is calling me to fix something for dinner. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
later, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
linda</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17099251228735290560noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-921800767267967681.post-50849216916464730512012-06-07T11:55:00.001-07:002012-06-07T11:55:24.185-07:00More Good Stuff<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I'm just working on a "few" projects, right, so now there's more?! Yes!<br />
My daughter saw a quilt in Anthropologie last winter and wants one in grey. So I said sure. Why not, Right? So, I've been collecting greys:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFQ7Nc3Ynmbf3tjUELqYOq_udptzEnitHfrj0Ky02_CRvFIaGZzxAkT-4zXGZTOLJ4oQJi8103dm218UqAM2oNzqHBU6gfdnTRAPl4sq9buUtQjS7TP8Dh7pGC_sL5kHi9ZfSH42sCp7HT/s1600/IMG_0244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFQ7Nc3Ynmbf3tjUELqYOq_udptzEnitHfrj0Ky02_CRvFIaGZzxAkT-4zXGZTOLJ4oQJi8103dm218UqAM2oNzqHBU6gfdnTRAPl4sq9buUtQjS7TP8Dh7pGC_sL5kHi9ZfSH42sCp7HT/s320/IMG_0244.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know some look a little brown and some look a little blue, but I think that'll help the overall richness. These greys will be opposite white and set in a streak of lightening pattern. I'm going to try and make it as a potholder quilt with knife edges to the blocks. So I said to her "What color/s do you want on the back" and she immediately said "Canary yellow". No hesitation there,(glad I asked), so:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheBktdrKMotddSW8A0gPcjrwMnsU3cF4an84xBVh6LIJSBPH5FFpsSGC2tDb8xASwwuOP_nfw1j_wSeTLubSZY4LGddAY47kDcKYiU0Id0cODhRPRmgsvaGf55jrkBbUJ7n-OOkpT91pDt/s1600/IMG_0246.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheBktdrKMotddSW8A0gPcjrwMnsU3cF4an84xBVh6LIJSBPH5FFpsSGC2tDb8xASwwuOP_nfw1j_wSeTLubSZY4LGddAY47kDcKYiU0Id0cODhRPRmgsvaGf55jrkBbUJ7n-OOkpT91pDt/s320/IMG_0246.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And there may be a few others added as I find them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since that's all taken care of , LOL, when I saw this quilt on the <a href="http://www.bunnyhilldesigns.com/dynamic/?page=Free+Patterns">Bunny Hill Designs</a> web site (go to the page and scroll down) I fell in love. And <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/browse_dept_items.asp?sid=1028671447101028&Store_id=499&page_id=17&Sub_Department_ID=1164&categ_id=1164&parent_ids=&page_viewall=Y&sNode=&Exp=Y&Search_Dept=&Search_Text=">The Fat Quarter Shop</a> has it all kitted up. (usual disclaimer) (go to the page and scroll almost 3/4 down the page on the right) It was one of those grey days and I lllooooooovvve</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
polka dots and a few days later I got this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW7kqv2VemPTjccx0_h7jBalG0UiRmdXC1nxf9rCm2pKHEOLa7WRUUsdYIwIJt2gXM-Vezk6aCHyjhOYrFfRsVdDPQssAJ0j_1EKwKZdQcgCdRi1Uyy_JrnGddRKlfOFz1MW34sUFnYCKt/s1600/IMG_0243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW7kqv2VemPTjccx0_h7jBalG0UiRmdXC1nxf9rCm2pKHEOLa7WRUUsdYIwIJt2gXM-Vezk6aCHyjhOYrFfRsVdDPQssAJ0j_1EKwKZdQcgCdRi1Uyy_JrnGddRKlfOFz1MW34sUFnYCKt/s320/IMG_0243.JPG" width="320" /></a> in the mail. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm still working on how to make this a pot holder quilt..have to see if I'll need any more fabric, and decide what to use as a backing. So many decisions................ : ). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I better figure out what to fix with the potato salad for dinner and get the clothes out of the dryer and........</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I'm actually back the next day like I said I would be. (Surprised me, too.) Well, I took a look at the blog after I'd posted and realized I had a better pic of the quilt that I posted-twice, even. So:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_tDvI_Df8eTd4VELwz8OxxYo2XPpll513a7lv11Ev4I5nsD7PhyphenhyphenkuTbkMLzXRJI2NnMqCQrmIW7NneWcqFSURTLITP63XVrbbU3IEhykhqycNDpUfBJsDCoDCTUVasIlU7A4f4o9IIe-B/s1600/IMG_0233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_tDvI_Df8eTd4VELwz8OxxYo2XPpll513a7lv11Ev4I5nsD7PhyphenhyphenkuTbkMLzXRJI2NnMqCQrmIW7NneWcqFSURTLITP63XVrbbU3IEhykhqycNDpUfBJsDCoDCTUVasIlU7A4f4o9IIe-B/s320/IMG_0233.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yes. I'm happy with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, now to the new stuff.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had ordered a book:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE6RIrfTE7cTXS_hYx05HdsYd5VB_fOjhAkPtCnJQObdg4FosNOjNAm0yBpaLoGsOaIH3JMZhS0CK34uqvXXgil8ut1bMGzWFuQfP4PG_nIuwJNeZEF6BwKiP1bX349xgqYTfVCn6kjU4K/s1600/IMG_0240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE6RIrfTE7cTXS_hYx05HdsYd5VB_fOjhAkPtCnJQObdg4FosNOjNAm0yBpaLoGsOaIH3JMZhS0CK34uqvXXgil8ut1bMGzWFuQfP4PG_nIuwJNeZEF6BwKiP1bX349xgqYTfVCn6kjU4K/s320/IMG_0240.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Utility-Quilting-Simple-Solutions-Quick/dp/1935726145/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338913377&sr=8-1">Utility Quilting by Carolyn Forster</a> and took it to work. (no, I have no connection with Amazon except I occasionally shop there.) Didn't want the girls to have to order it in if it wasn't something we could use. Mel loved it! We saw this picture:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTCisW3XZAj23TrOAvRQXItDl2sZwD4h8u-e_0I3gTWgAf-RQVEiaYR4Zg8bpcEKMnzi5RS7wto_JkHwjF7ggQJXWlPCu3UmD811NsOrM3n88qYX0d7ezxH48EugLRJ_47R4j0pDjYoWRX/s1600/IMG_0241.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTCisW3XZAj23TrOAvRQXItDl2sZwD4h8u-e_0I3gTWgAf-RQVEiaYR4Zg8bpcEKMnzi5RS7wto_JkHwjF7ggQJXWlPCu3UmD811NsOrM3n88qYX0d7ezxH48EugLRJ_47R4j0pDjYoWRX/s320/IMG_0241.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
done in thirties fabrics. We decided to do it out of Civil War repros:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmB7FyVkoNS4g6pbMeYbfPU8YItVZcFYcGsvl5Fg__IDK-8UDuZN7VaouyCYzTothU5_6NyX5ObL3z0QBN3RKoUNhyphenhyphenlJheCMNaNuTxn3zHNWQmjJJnnlf2STHQYHZ8JD-uZV-J6Kcto9zB/s1600/IMG_0239.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmB7FyVkoNS4g6pbMeYbfPU8YItVZcFYcGsvl5Fg__IDK-8UDuZN7VaouyCYzTothU5_6NyX5ObL3z0QBN3RKoUNhyphenhyphenlJheCMNaNuTxn3zHNWQmjJJnnlf2STHQYHZ8JD-uZV-J6Kcto9zB/s320/IMG_0239.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It took about 5 hours to piece it being really careful, cause if we use it as a class sample, I don't want people seeing how inefficient I can be : ) I think I'll finish it using a lot of different techniques demonstrated in the book--and believe me, there are a lot! I learned things that I had never seen any where else. How many of you know about the "Methodist knot"? And how about the "Decatur knot"? So, finishing the quilt will be an adventure! And it will be so nice having a quilt that you don't care if the kids gack on it, or spill milk on it, or the dog lays on it or the cat leaves a hair ball on it. But you still had the fun of choosing fabrics, and trying different combos than you normally would, and maybe even using up some of the stash you haven't figured out how to use anywhere else.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's all I have for today. I have been working on some pot holder blocks and buying fabric for a quilt for my daughter. So I will have some things to show you soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I actually do get some things done, though sometimes it take a while. : ] <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was for my friend Cathy's 60th birthday, and the top was finished in time for that, but I just got the quilting done 2 years later. But we're both still kickin' and it's done! And she likes it! What more could you ask for? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tomorrow I'm posting about a book that inspired a quilt top for a class. Got ya curious, didn't I?</div>

and it will go to it's home in North Dakota 2 years after the birthday, but on time for May 30. Yea, me.<br />
<br />
I also have two more pot holder blocks pieced and layered awaiting quilting. This is going to turn into a quilt even though Mr. Wonderful still sees it as a table runner and I could stop and not lose any status in his eyes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi23rw5Ck7rR-3Pur3fsStMVoRi6vbu5Qy9Q2vR1MhTQTt6a8IitLRuJnBFlU3xy79twDNqv_Ztt6cQaWG2PXNMOkn-citzvkwYM0YD-rwzKoavYCj3L_tGZqGBod-3OvISwcQStyNbnp58/s1600/IMG_0228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi23rw5Ck7rR-3Pur3fsStMVoRi6vbu5Qy9Q2vR1MhTQTt6a8IitLRuJnBFlU3xy79twDNqv_Ztt6cQaWG2PXNMOkn-citzvkwYM0YD-rwzKoavYCj3L_tGZqGBod-3OvISwcQStyNbnp58/s320/IMG_0228.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The rooster is photographed upside down, but he is centered, and it's no problem as I can fix any setting issues before I whip the blocks together.<br />

I saw a sweet little doll quilt in the <i>Small Endearments</i> book that I think I've mentioned before. Well, it's been talking to me and so I <i>had</i> to start it, didn't I? Anyway, I'm doing it larger-48x48 --three blocks across and 3 blocks down, pot holder fashion. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had originally planned to bind it in the acid green. Then I thought maybe acid green on 2 sides and red on the other two:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikMWaCE7IcBTxSNrssf2N5YBeWwNQ9hxIaFBU8bf0gn-P5Y8RFhcH0Gv6GDs97ltky4b40RyEqfApu9nbnzRca5fsccXFhTZw-eTfAbg7cSKnhCuu4UAkHm4PiLvYyksMoBXqniHs5SNgU/s1600/IMG_0215.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikMWaCE7IcBTxSNrssf2N5YBeWwNQ9hxIaFBU8bf0gn-P5Y8RFhcH0Gv6GDs97ltky4b40RyEqfApu9nbnzRca5fsccXFhTZw-eTfAbg7cSKnhCuu4UAkHm4PiLvYyksMoBXqniHs5SNgU/s320/IMG_0215.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>

This one is the knife edge. The first blocks I did had applied straight cut binding, put on opposite sides first then the remaining 2. There were also continuous bindings that were single thickness that did not have mitered corners. A few have been found with woven tape bindings. And of course there were some where the front had been taken to the back and those where the back was turned to the front. The versatility of these blocks just cranks me up and I wish I had several more hours in the day to get more done!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm off to put some applied binding on a couple of Amish style blocks. Ya know how in love I am with the pot holder quilts and method? Go back and read the previous 2 posts if you missed them. Well, I went to work yesterday and a rep was in with the girls and........<a href="http://www.marcusbrothers.com/features/">Marcus Fabrics</a> is coming out with a fabric line and pattern based on one of the pot holder quilts in the <i>Civil War Quilts </i>book! It's called "The Union Forever". If you go to the Marcus link above, it'll take you to the<br />
free pattern.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px; color: #333333; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;"><img alt="The Union Forever by Jean Ann Wright" border="0" src="http://www.marcusbrothers.com/images/project/the_union_forever.jpg" title="The Union Forever by Jean Ann Wright" />The original one has some of the center blocks done with red, white and blue fabrics in sort of a medallion in the center, but what the hey, change is good!</span><br />
In the meantime, I'm still working on the knife edge table topper and will have a picture tomorrow, hopefully, and I'm considering cutting apart a "modern" quilt I did with lots of Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett fabrics in big blocks with white sashing. I think I'll have fun turning it into a pot holder quilt and actually get it done. Might add a little more kick with different block bindings! (My grammer is getting more and more incorrectly convoluted, but that's how my brain is working right now, and I have to get things down.) <br />
I have to go work on my pineapple blocks, as this evening I get to mow the lawn again, today, the 29th of March. Right. As my daughter says, "It's not snow". Amen.<br />
later,<br />

My new knee is great, I'm coping with my hives and my shingles are gone. It's been a weird 4-5 months. While I was gone, the girls at the shop where I work found a new-ish book:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVr-DLSF2NpnRR7BQf9qv5XI-S8lb5n8KGdE7wLLhM0n6EoYffj-PlMORPl8FDVz8VbPnBH37RQOl1Zs_D6xz9QhBDJMzfQMU4Zr5Ct4vFcnJrh4T3R_kLi2RleTHQ_uDyCs1gVfcS6K7l/s1600/IMG_0197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVr-DLSF2NpnRR7BQf9qv5XI-S8lb5n8KGdE7wLLhM0n6EoYffj-PlMORPl8FDVz8VbPnBH37RQOl1Zs_D6xz9QhBDJMzfQMU4Zr5Ct4vFcnJrh4T3R_kLi2RleTHQ_uDyCs1gVfcS6K7l/s320/IMG_0197.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> It's by Pam Weeks and Don Beld and it deals with "pot holder quilts"--quilts that are made as individual blocks that are completely quilted and bound, then whip-stitched together! Makes group quilts as easy as those knitters and crocheters have it. What it does for me is feed my "lazy quilter" mode. I get to hand or machine piece <u>a block</u>, hand quilt or machine quilt <u>a block</u>, and bind <u>a block</u> and then whip stitch it in rows or square units. If I do it all by hand I get to do it all on the couch <b>without displacing the dogs or abandoning Mr. Wonderful!</b> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhglSgop6uWqN5YD3COfYU_QBbCmeaefnExXRQAuZtepQmwLuMqe82E1kYHoLjHIxFRPqcUpzjplRrufTiJpgfOCchXBTys2mxxiSQb-p4zFaONNC8YMp5ebrfF3kdxCmMSDU0Fmb0KL7gx/s1600/IMG_0196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhglSgop6uWqN5YD3COfYU_QBbCmeaefnExXRQAuZtepQmwLuMqe82E1kYHoLjHIxFRPqcUpzjplRrufTiJpgfOCchXBTys2mxxiSQb-p4zFaONNC8YMp5ebrfF3kdxCmMSDU0Fmb0KL7gx/s320/IMG_0196.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Look at this sweet block! I turned it into a table runner by adding just 3 more (they're 14" blocks), and now I have plans for getting other quilts that I have in assorted stages of "not finished" actually finished! And I'm getting to hand quilt without having to wrestle a big hunk of fabric stuff.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Right now I'm working on a pineapple applique table topper that will have a knife edge finish instead of applied binding. If I go applique right now, I'll get to post a new photo in a day or 2! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Check out this book! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">later, </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">linda </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I belong to a smallish quilt guild (called STASH--Second Thursday at Someone's Home) which makes Lovies for Ronald McDonald House, along with fun, friendship and food. Well, I got <i>suggested</i> to be president for this past year. President sounded so pedestrian, so I decided I wanted to be Empress. Much better! Each meeting I tried for a new tiara and scepter.<br />
As a final gift at the end of the year, they asked me what kind of quilt blocks I'd like. I asked for little red work blocks. Well, imagine my extreme pleasure when I received these. Are they not absolutely sublime? <br />

First there was the whole Easter thing, then I tore the cartilage in my knee--one of those "shaggy dog" stories, then surgery, recovery, and catch up. Have I done anything much in the mean time? I feel like I've been constantly working on something, just don't feel like much is finished. My work room, however, sure looks like I've been slinging stuff all over:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNPyx3ZrWLTif5DC7e-Pob24EFx6DYCvnBG416FmiIf78KwrGyhuIFlKfyxRDXGQ5-5Zjsy2use7d7zWqRCyGqufr2bo5uaCPU6-P01abBb8RKMF_s6NxkTgiVXlhBsYIeXOIi9wesgXQh/s1600/DSCF0679.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNPyx3ZrWLTif5DC7e-Pob24EFx6DYCvnBG416FmiIf78KwrGyhuIFlKfyxRDXGQ5-5Zjsy2use7d7zWqRCyGqufr2bo5uaCPU6-P01abBb8RKMF_s6NxkTgiVXlhBsYIeXOIi9wesgXQh/s200/DSCF0679.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />

The new Jo Morton Book just came in: <i>Banner Day. </i>I'm working on a little framed back basted applique house piece. Waaaay too small and fussy for back basting, but why not? Might leave all the windows out. I know, that means I'll be replacing the one that's already done. What's new. It's process, not product. Well, yeah, it is product when it's for work, but process is good.<br />
I think I'll teach the process with a larger house that they can then translate. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3aviKG_n5dM3qTxZmmaQ6UHRDNqVd2FASCjLRgXw4UziQ2ZaJ-uYEegrIDQhczuWKWWwdWNypxlpDTTcn3O2T0A2NcqTCddb077VVPnhvabVMDTN-ajAHuj74GSWN3DtNvgxC2AQjuWsB/s1600/DSCF0675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3aviKG_n5dM3qTxZmmaQ6UHRDNqVd2FASCjLRgXw4UziQ2ZaJ-uYEegrIDQhczuWKWWwdWNypxlpDTTcn3O2T0A2NcqTCddb077VVPnhvabVMDTN-ajAHuj74GSWN3DtNvgxC2AQjuWsB/s200/DSCF0675.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The other thing that I've been doing is making yo-yo's. Lots of yoyo's. I've made over 250 so far. The pattern is from the June 2011 issue of <i>BH&G American Patchwork & Quilting</i>. It's on the cover. I may have mentioned this in the last post. I should read what I've written or write more often, as I have a very limited memory. Ah well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiimbCu48Tkdi_zBT4c9qEHMS6aEC_JlJmSRZetMDiNcm-SHKaUYl_Iw5KKhLuQ_VmZU1sW5PdqSMpqFCJxgcPFdJ4avjl7HMSsosjurN6tpPqflOCIA2ZDGWT_4sG5CQ6TFgKXlw_-n08k/s1600/DSCF0680.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiimbCu48Tkdi_zBT4c9qEHMS6aEC_JlJmSRZetMDiNcm-SHKaUYl_Iw5KKhLuQ_VmZU1sW5PdqSMpqFCJxgcPFdJ4avjl7HMSsosjurN6tpPqflOCIA2ZDGWT_4sG5CQ6TFgKXlw_-n08k/s200/DSCF0680.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>And don't get me started on the fact that the picture is not rotated. I'm on a very slow, long learning curve. <br />
I have things all lined up for my next post, so it shouldn't be as long. The NQA show is in town starting this Thursday. Big trouble. :-}. See you after that.<br />

1) look at new magazines<br />
2) look at old books<br />
3) read other blogs<br />
and any number of other things that are creatively stimulating!!!!!!!!<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Have you seen the new issue of BH&G's American Patchwork and Quilting? The cover quilt really got to me. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO938jemPiJIaTg4rQWADDPyMnyiIBri__-DL2O5vmZ26Qq6UueSrtoMFOCcNdrt36mO1-154-gris7vJ92waF8UWGfu6Hxz65YgaswNghIePVAcAIAuydILOSkMc-Mp0HsLEvIgYXPw-q/s1600/new+stuff+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO938jemPiJIaTg4rQWADDPyMnyiIBri__-DL2O5vmZ26Qq6UueSrtoMFOCcNdrt36mO1-154-gris7vJ92waF8UWGfu6Hxz65YgaswNghIePVAcAIAuydILOSkMc-Mp0HsLEvIgYXPw-q/s200/new+stuff+002.JPG" width="150" /></a>For some reason I love yoyo's but have never thought of the open-ness of the coverlets practical for my house of little animals. And here's the solution. The yoyo's are topstitched to the strips of fabric. How cool is that! No fussy applique, just lots and lots of basting stitches ! So I couldn't resist, right? So, I got out a bunch of 5 1/2 " scraps and got busy with my Accucut and Voila!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi9W4ZhZNJFs5UpjeBRzJIIlu1IgZzCYF1HIYVGGwN1VHVyfXx_lHgmRSlWnZUsMgRokWPP20CBvSdWQNJNoY50wxnDoJiQINfYPRqYqkbYzljvqdJtqmR1MHWGJTiSdS3xk1sheyp4tJT/s1600/new+stuff+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi9W4ZhZNJFs5UpjeBRzJIIlu1IgZzCYF1HIYVGGwN1VHVyfXx_lHgmRSlWnZUsMgRokWPP20CBvSdWQNJNoY50wxnDoJiQINfYPRqYqkbYzljvqdJtqmR1MHWGJTiSdS3xk1sheyp4tJT/s200/new+stuff+003.JPG" width="200" /></a>Not quite Terry Atkinson's (the designer) colors, but I do work at a store specializing in Civil War reproductions after all. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"> And if that wasn't enough, I picked up an old BH&G Quilt Book that had a picture of a squashed and elongated hexagon type pattern that looked like an old Turkish rug, hanging on a wall behind a bench, and thought, hmmm, I'll bet I have something in <a href="http://www.inklingo.com/">Inklingo</a> that'll work. And I did! These are elongated hexagons from the Inklingo lite #4. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKhvQpeboyyBkaAYZ92d6MoAHkJ36XMjhoOiSRHo5CT4mjFdGXw6AMkjVwkLHIyURQe2slUkRbvciQkx6BbRs-N5BoT4bTork-lGlPs1hepcqXs4ZSM9vll3VUB-39TtqTiWKZ0AMon5lm/s1600/new+stuff+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKhvQpeboyyBkaAYZ92d6MoAHkJ36XMjhoOiSRHo5CT4mjFdGXw6AMkjVwkLHIyURQe2slUkRbvciQkx6BbRs-N5BoT4bTork-lGlPs1hepcqXs4ZSM9vll3VUB-39TtqTiWKZ0AMon5lm/s200/new+stuff+004.JPG" width="200" /></a>It's squashed the opposite direction of the ones in the original photo, but with a little fussing, it'll be fine---and mine! </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh71wgtNsCakYkcBTSDYg-ZW0TALYBp-9Ua01XBbyGjiw4Iea-x6AWSaRqpJE-SfBjYCpwrtjmLEzg0IL0EpQa_iDbFsuNb4zLbGiNX1gyZ78Eb6XzG1CdoL7pQONNtiuLg4xZaXSLXDYA4/s1600/new+stuff+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh71wgtNsCakYkcBTSDYg-ZW0TALYBp-9Ua01XBbyGjiw4Iea-x6AWSaRqpJE-SfBjYCpwrtjmLEzg0IL0EpQa_iDbFsuNb4zLbGiNX1gyZ78Eb6XzG1CdoL7pQONNtiuLg4xZaXSLXDYA4/s200/new+stuff+005.JPG" width="200" /></a>So, in a matter of an evening I had this pile marked and cut and ready to go. Since the full moon was the closest in 18 years, I had a brain tsunami. I was muddled and my math errors were waaay worse than usual and I miscut the same fabric TWICE. But it's over now, and I'm getting on with getting on.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I've been big stitch quilting a 3" hexagon quilt that I made with <a href="http://www.inklingo.com/">Inklingo</a> (the blocks are 3", not the quilt ; ) ) and I'm really pleased with how it's turning out. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaVzXgJu4kZ3jOPYAHyYQL39A5Ph7RN7G-OgjX5a91hqd3hqpTaohVD82dH4iIkzr2iNqz-tcUep8xpoKyUtpdAfLQb-zodKmvIetZLJ78pZXu4ykQAUo0ci4VfQydD4q6oWDlCb4laSyt/s1600/quilts+and+dan+stuff+058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaVzXgJu4kZ3jOPYAHyYQL39A5Ph7RN7G-OgjX5a91hqd3hqpTaohVD82dH4iIkzr2iNqz-tcUep8xpoKyUtpdAfLQb-zodKmvIetZLJ78pZXu4ykQAUo0ci4VfQydD4q6oWDlCb4laSyt/s200/quilts+and+dan+stuff+058.JPG" width="150" /></a>It only took about 2 weeks to hand piece the top and I'm doing the quilting with size 16 Perle Cotton in a taupe color. Almost done. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Which is good, because I'm going to be dressed up in my winter gear mowing the lawn any minute!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFF_ULXsZhMwuKsxZ1Hy87Y0OZ_aYXByWKFvCcPfUwm1flfNqWskpBs-8-_MwezHdWoa9bhOdKNjEGADpABL2sSemUwW9zoF0NZBPdctLOXYT9VGVJYkJT_MhyzqMesCY554YbKjsf5w5H/s1600/quilts+and+dan+stuff+056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFF_ULXsZhMwuKsxZ1Hy87Y0OZ_aYXByWKFvCcPfUwm1flfNqWskpBs-8-_MwezHdWoa9bhOdKNjEGADpABL2sSemUwW9zoF0NZBPdctLOXYT9VGVJYkJT_MhyzqMesCY554YbKjsf5w5H/s200/quilts+and+dan+stuff+056.JPG" width="150" /></a></div><br />

The dogs are going out and saying: "I don't like to pee when the grass rubs up against my belly, ya know." Just sayin'. I even bought a new Spring purse to cheer me up, and I can't bring myself to use it, cause the weather is too blah for it. Maybe I'll save it for Easter.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When you were growing up, did you get a whole new outfit for Easter? From underpants, slip, socks, dress, hat and shoes to gloves? We did. And then, what ever the weather was, you could wear white or patent leather shoes until Labor Day. Yes, I'm getting old. Tough. My purse will have to do for this year, unless, maybe I treat myself to..........</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If you don't want to listen to me muse, skip the next paragraph.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I wonder why I don't care to machine quilt. I'm not good at it, yet, but I know it takes practice. I'm not afraid of practice--look at how long I'm willing to practice hand quilting, big stitch or small. And I hand piece, and applique. I have a couple of lovely machines. It's not the equipment. Granted, my Sashiko machine is in the shop for who knows how long, and I do enjoy quilting on that. Must be the way it looks after. I enjoy looking at other good machine quilting, I just don't feel like mine should look like that. That being said, it looks like my friend Cathy will have to wait a little longer for the quilt I made her for her birthday last year. Bit stitch quilting, here I come. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">later.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">linda</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

She was donating a <a href="http://www.zentangle.com/">Zentangle</a> kit to the auction. I'd never heard of this, although it's apparantly been around for at least 15 years. Stop. Go check out the Zentangle site. So, I'm intrigued, because although I've got a degree in art, I can't doodle, and I love to learn new things. So, I sent away for the kit, picked up a copy of <u>The Quilter Magazine</u> and saw an article on <a href="http://www.patfergusonquilts.com/">Pat Ferguson</a>, and her Zentangle quilts. The Universe speaks! Okay, now, tell me how behind the times I am and where have I been the last 15 years.<br />
later<br />

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">To Joan, I'm "reproducing" a quilt that I saw in the book, <u>Classic Quilts from the American Museum in Britain.</u></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKpRQ-oltDg8vFn-qqyUQczrfSdTwkvfb3g7__VgXS5AoBcZXGfdJH8eD9KDODGLPCuLb30dAj9jYXG0s2t6kO6OXKHT1LSj6n_eecEIFifJ5FLu4O3cUMHu_VjFrIK1XKZ9p3I4Ffs86s/s1600/sunburst+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKpRQ-oltDg8vFn-qqyUQczrfSdTwkvfb3g7__VgXS5AoBcZXGfdJH8eD9KDODGLPCuLb30dAj9jYXG0s2t6kO6OXKHT1LSj6n_eecEIFifJ5FLu4O3cUMHu_VjFrIK1XKZ9p3I4Ffs86s/s200/sunburst+003.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">It's on page 80, and here's a picture of a picture (don't know how else to do that)and the original is 72"x65" (183x165 cm). I chose fabrics that were similar to the ones in the original and am pleased at how it's coming out so far. I got the book on Amazon. The quilt was made by Elizabeth Mitchell (nee Cannon) in St. Cloud, Minnesota between 1875 and 1900. The original background was a yellow sateen, and don't supposoe I'll be able to find that in that color now, but haven't started looking, yet. The original was EPP, but I'm using Inklingo. Yes, I'm planning on it taking a while. Sigh. Thanks for your interest.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

'Cause I deleted all the blathery stuff I had started this post with and started over! It's a snow day and I don't have to go to work. The snow's not that bad, but blowing and drifting all over the roads makes travel not ideal.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I've gotten parts and pieces done. She, who is very insightful, likened it to seeing a vibernum cluster, and each little flower is wondrous and precious, and each are equal, and God considers us each individually, while dealing with the whole. And that kind of broke my mind. The fact that I consider each is precious and the whole no more so than the each of the individuals is a good bit of insight for me in just talking about fabric quilts. The rest is something I have to ponder for a while.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Then, in between all of these, we got the 2 puppies spayed. The layout was time-consuming, as the blocks are 20" ish- and there wasn't a large layout sheet to put the fabric over-just a graph. I suppose I could have blown things up and taped, or redrawn it on a red dot tracing mesh, but that would take more time before I could start to sew, so I "approximated" stuff. We'll see if I regret that when I'm done. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Tomorrow I'm doing a full scale Inklingo demo, so I have to go get that ready. She seems ever so much more organized than I am.) if you search "klosjes",which is the Dutch word. Apparantly, they've been very big in the Netherlands for a while. (I'm late to the party,as usual). A group of people have declared Saturdays as the day to work on your Klosjes. There are a number of sizes and shapes, but I agree with Cathi that there's something special and addictive about this little size. Did I say the finished blocks finish at 2 1/2" square?</div> <div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I did some "old fashioned" marking with a pencil and got a bunch of hearts to top stitch applique ready:</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7eJxxi5gEmW0H7kpYV3nXRy5cOcNU_yNNjMx68e9u2Ic6ibji3z6ADmK-wdwHfgokV4ntza_iQHaa4iVj604QkYX_jHshFr1bJur8L3-25JlL-0Kgu8OwYyCenUaKKeYVKdt2F91UNetT/s1600/hearts%252C+flowers%252C+forget-me-nots+%2526+spooles+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7eJxxi5gEmW0H7kpYV3nXRy5cOcNU_yNNjMx68e9u2Ic6ibji3z6ADmK-wdwHfgokV4ntza_iQHaa4iVj604QkYX_jHshFr1bJur8L3-25JlL-0Kgu8OwYyCenUaKKeYVKdt2F91UNetT/s200/hearts%252C+flowers%252C+forget-me-nots+%2526+spooles+003.JPG" width="200" /></a>And I worked on my Spring table topper out of the Blackbird design book, <u>Garden Club.</u></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL3h_CXCzlCyQztPLJNTFkx0gyyeWc5qTwEem9JL5R9QU9AVoijUmZPKEBwAgliNf6W7GpaFg00_ASX2sfDDp7haEDiFZx9-PN-KUofcM55jXH1D0gTq8W_pTn1t2EnJhSqBk0GI6NgEtw/s1600/hearts%252C+flowers%252C+forget-me-nots+%2526+spooles+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL3h_CXCzlCyQztPLJNTFkx0gyyeWc5qTwEem9JL5R9QU9AVoijUmZPKEBwAgliNf6W7GpaFg00_ASX2sfDDp7haEDiFZx9-PN-KUofcM55jXH1D0gTq8W_pTn1t2EnJhSqBk0GI6NgEtw/s200/hearts%252C+flowers%252C+forget-me-nots+%2526+spooles+004.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope you didn't expect focus this year!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Well, dinner's in the crockpot, but the laundry in the dryer won't fold itself.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">later</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">linda</div>lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17099251228735290560noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-921800767267967681.post-43984896040810101352010-12-31T08:04:00.000-08:002010-12-31T08:10:31.924-08:00good-bye-helloHope your holidays were excellent. Ours were mighty fine (wait-didn't that used to be a brand of pudding?). In any event, I'm trying to put things in order so I can face the New Year with calm and intention. Notice I didn't say "calm intention". That would so not happen. With that in mind, I spent the other day checking out all my "small" projects, that is, projects with small blocks, not necessarily small finished sizes. <br />
So far, I've gotten blocks ready to sew for:<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDMhK9eIwKoCppty0W6W3Ew3lfMepSiwaIPCDxADUn6OIvsrnYS59c2eY57Jcn_6cXsljyT6m3Yiki1-g1SXoVZk6cN8G7pC_LTuWgQMgTdXS7ZwNKLJc-uiLrH0IBQjzSPi9Gk_tgY6ZU/s1600/small+projects+%2526+valentine+hint+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDMhK9eIwKoCppty0W6W3Ew3lfMepSiwaIPCDxADUn6OIvsrnYS59c2eY57Jcn_6cXsljyT6m3Yiki1-g1SXoVZk6cN8G7pC_LTuWgQMgTdXS7ZwNKLJc-uiLrH0IBQjzSPi9Gk_tgY6ZU/s200/small+projects+%2526+valentine+hint+002.JPG" width="200" /></a>the star quilt from Blackbird Designs' <u>Country Inn,</u> the pattern called</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">"Shooting Stars". <em> </em>I have 40+ of these done, and now about 10 more ready ro go. It's from another Blackbird Design book that I can't find right now to tell you the title. I'm doing these with <a href="http://www.inklingo.com/">Inklingo</a>'s POTC lite collection. (That's Lucy Boston's Patchwork of the Crosses which you can read all about on the Inklingo site). Nothing. I do have the shopping done. I have not mixed up the cookie dough. I do have a plan for the next 4 days. There's power in a plan. Most of my plan involves quilting (both doing and dreaming) and eating. I like this plan a lot. <br />
<a href="http://www.inklingo.com/">Inklingo</a> just came out with the new Feathered Star patterns and design book. The design book is free for a short time, so get yourself downloading <em>now. </em>I'm hoping for GC's for Inklingo as part of my Christmas. : -) <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And because I have nothing else to do,<em> </em>and since I found a cute <a href="http://www.cindyblackberg.com/">Cindy Blackberg</a> stamp set at work for a little sunflower quilt,<em> </em>I got most of it cut out and started</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAHibvMi9vhzgr5FtWTOcVlp4zTdbqFLSi6L4wxidBQIziebiuY5RqKFF5phwqHQwQ_crFTTIZfmHDz_teBPU7OKg81YnWX0dvOG1y0fQ4OAIL5DXBKh1Gq8OffY5wFfmveuCMHi5k-aa-/s1600/sunflowers+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAHibvMi9vhzgr5FtWTOcVlp4zTdbqFLSi6L4wxidBQIziebiuY5RqKFF5phwqHQwQ_crFTTIZfmHDz_teBPU7OKg81YnWX0dvOG1y0fQ4OAIL5DXBKh1Gq8OffY5wFfmveuCMHi5k-aa-/s200/sunflowers+002.JPG" width="200" /></a>. I said I just got started. They make 8" blocks and in utter sweetness will look something like this:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj06OnMte8aHyIlsV3DsdqU_kyVqgvg39-Is-2BwAMq_Jt5lRKetYo2aYEpUmXNILUyspmIfU6zYKyxmu4dbe3DXBf1lkVBoHlnjR9YQ6U1qeE5_4IBjVDBiccWw7WjEYWpc-VEqGfnR7Lj/s1600/sunflowers+003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj06OnMte8aHyIlsV3DsdqU_kyVqgvg39-Is-2BwAMq_Jt5lRKetYo2aYEpUmXNILUyspmIfU6zYKyxmu4dbe3DXBf1lkVBoHlnjR9YQ6U1qeE5_4IBjVDBiccWw7WjEYWpc-VEqGfnR7Lj/s200/sunflowers+003.JPG" width="150" /></a>I think I'm leaving off the dark border, though. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I was wondering for the umpteenth time the other day, why I feel this need to start so many projects. I mean actively start them, not just buy them. At this point all I can come up with is I need to feel a sense of ownership-if I start it, it can be finished. And it says something about my faith in the future, that I'll have time to finish it or at least decide it's fate. And that's my thought for the day. later. linda</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
